NJ CCAP Childcare Subsidy 2026: Income Limits, Eligibility & How to Apply

New Jersey’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) — also called NJ Cares for Kids — helps working families afford licensed daycare and childcare. If you are paying for childcare in Edison, Roselle, or anywhere in Middlesex or Union County, there is a real chance you qualify for a subsidy that reduces your cost significantly, or eliminates it entirely.

Who Qualifies for NJ CCAP in 2026?

To qualify for CCAP in New Jersey, you must meet ALL of the following:

  • Child age: Under 13 years old (up to 19 if the child has a disability)
  • Residency: Living in New Jersey
  • Work/school status: You must be working, in school, or in a job training program (or a combination). Both parents in a two-parent household must qualify.
  • Income: Your household income must fall at or below the program limits (see table below)
  • Childcare need: You must need childcare to work or attend school — not for a stay-at-home parent

2026 NJ CCAP Income Limits by Family Size

Income eligibility is based on your household’s gross monthly income compared to the State Median Income (SMI). Families at or below 200% SMI are eligible. The approximate 2026 monthly gross income limits are:

Family Size Monthly Income Limit Annual Income Limit
2 people ~$4,850 ~$58,200
3 people ~$6,100 ~$73,200
4 people ~$7,350 ~$88,200
5 people ~$8,600 ~$103,200
6 people ~$9,850 ~$118,200

Note: These are approximate 2026 figures based on 200% of NJ State Median Income. Verify current limits at your county Board of Social Services or childcareconnection-nj.org.

How Much Will CCAP Pay?

CCAP pays a portion of your childcare cost — the exact amount depends on your income and family size. Families with the lowest income relative to the limit often pay $0 copay. As income rises toward the limit, the family copay increases on a sliding scale.

The subsidy goes directly to your licensed childcare provider. You pay only your copay portion (if any) directly to the center.

How to Apply for NJ CCAP in 2026

  1. Find your county agency — Applications are handled by your county Board of Social Services (not the state directly)
  2. Gather documents — You will need: proof of NJ residency, proof of income (pay stubs, tax returns), proof of work or school enrollment, child’s birth certificate, and your childcare provider’s license number
  3. Submit your application — Applications can be submitted in person, by mail, or online depending on your county. Middlesex County: (732) 745-3400. Union County: (908) 497-3541.
  4. Choose an approved provider — Your subsidy only works at CCAP-approved licensed daycare centers. Little Einstein’s Academy is an approved CCAP provider at both Edison and Roselle locations.
  5. Wait for determination — Processing times vary. Apply as early as possible — retroactive coverage is generally not available.

Does Little Einstein’s Academy Accept CCAP?

Yes. Little Einstein’s Academy is a fully licensed, CCAP-approved childcare provider at both locations:

Once approved, your CCAP voucher is applied directly to your tuition. Many of our families pay $0 per month. See our full enrollment and tuition information or call us to discuss your situation before applying.

What If I Don’t Qualify for CCAP?

Even if your income exceeds CCAP limits, there are other options:

  • Dependent Care FSA — Pre-tax dollars through your employer can save $500-$2,000/year on childcare
  • Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit — Federal credit for childcare expenses (up to $3,000 for one child, $6,000 for two+)
  • NJ Earned Income Tax Credit — Can supplement other credits for working families
  • Employer childcare benefits — Some NJ employers offer childcare subsidies or backup care — check your HR department
